Kids and parents dealing with peer pressure - This sounds like a phase that children and teenagers go through during their growing up years that may lead to experiments with hair dying, body piercing, illegal drugs, alcohol, tobacco usage.

Parents usually think that their children take them for granted and do not take their opinion seriously. In reality, parents and caregivers do have big influence over their children, teenagers included. They need to be there to give support and guide their children on how to cope with the negative effects of peer pressure.

Teach young people how to refuse offers, how to say no, politely, to offers of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. It will not only help them cope with the peer pressure at present but also in the later part of life.

Teach them how to avoid people who break the rules and undesirable situations. Children and teenagers who are not in situations where they feel pressure to perform negative actions as a group are far less like to do them on their own. Those who choose friends who do not smoke, drink, use drugs, steal, lie are far less likely to do these things themselves.

Let them know that it is okay to seek an adult’s advice. While it would be ideal if children sought the advice of their own parents but often they feel closer to their peers. Bridging the gap between the kids and parents is important during their growing up years.

Nurturing the confidence in children also help them make decisions and follow them thorough, even in difficult situations when their friend think they are un-cool. It will not only help them in their growing up years but also through life. It will definitely help kids and parents dealing with peer pressure pass through that period easier.
